Enterprise Mcafee question

At work we have got about 150+ windows xp (small amount less than 10 win 7) pc's

We are using Mcafee Enterprise version 8.

Ocasionally the antivirus is able to intercept trojans etc..... but if I run the eicar antivirus test, it is not able to intercept the test.

The only reason why this is an issue, is recently viruses have too easily been able to penetrate an infect machines.......

Should I be concerned it cant detect the eicar test virus?

Yes I would be worried. Not used McAfee in a long long time for various reasons. Recommend moving away from McAfee maybe on your next license renewal? Maybe bring it up with your budget or management that (IMHO) is a terrible product.

Personally prefer Symantec, NOD32, Avast, AVG over McAfee.

In short yup you should be worried it cannot detect it. Are the definitions up to date and the real time scanner is enabled in the GP panel?

Yep def uptodate and the real time scanner is enabled.

Unfourtuanlty the license has only just been renewed!

Probably the best thing you can do in that case is bolster your security with additional (freeware / open source) products or probably increase the security policy. Not sure of your software policies so going by general guidance.

Yea tell mcafee about it, maybe they will actually improve their software so that it actually works.
