Hi guys,

Firstly I apologise if this is in the wrong thread, the PC games area is full of reviews and hype threads and this felt like the most relevant to my problem.

Basically my problem revolves around 1 game, Company of Heroes 2.

What happens is as during actual gameplay (start menus within game are fine) my PC will crash at some point (ive run a few games fine, its hit or miss) and leave my PC in a stalled state. I get no response from anything, a sound loop and a black screen with 'no signal detected'.

I run the game on settings dictated by Nvidia Experience and ive had no issues with any other game, older or newer than CoH2 (even Arkham Knight works (I know!)).

My specs are:

Operating System
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit SP1
CPU
Intel Core i7 2600K @ 3.40GHz
Sandy Bridge 32nm Technology
RAM
8.00GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 665MHz (9-9-9-24)
Motherboard
Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. Z68X-UD7-B3 (Socket 1155)
Graphics
BenQ XL2410T (1920x1080@60Hz)
4095MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 (NVIDIA)
Storage
119GB M4-CT128M4SSD2 ATA Device (SSD)
465GB Western Digital WDC WD5000AZRX-00A8LB0 ATA Device (SATA)
931GB Seagate ST31000524AS ATA Device (SATA)
Optical Drives
HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GH22NS70 ATA Device
Audio
Corsair Vengeance 2100 Headset

Any suggestions?

it can be either memory or cpu voltage (memory as in memory controller),could also be gpu memory related idk till you test each thing

it'll be in the bios pages somewhere,it will say cpu/vtt use the + - keys to adjust it to say 1.06v and try with that

which dram voltage or vtt? max safe for vtt is only 1.2v

pretty sure its labelled as cpu/vtt or qpi/vtt

It was labelled qpi/vtt and it was normally set at 1.050v I set it to 1.160 as there was nothing else close by with a 6 in it. The next 'level' from 1.050 is 1.080

Im still getting the crashing problem annoyingly and im not entirely sure if its GPU related or maybe even monitor related.

The fact that I get a sound loop and the general unresponsiveness from the PC makes me think its more likely to be the GPU.

I say its the GPU as this is when it first happened when I got the GPU. Any ideas what I can do regarding this? Im kinda thinking I shoulda got a refund when they offered it in January

That said its only 1 game its affecting so far so im assuming it can be fixed somehow.

I did a bit of browsing and I came across someone suggesting the power options on the PC. Low and behold it was set to balanced but ive now put it to performance and have had game successfully. Ill have to see if it keeps but im hoping its that.

You don't mention the PSU in your opening post, could be that it isn't up to the job and your system is falling over due to the resulting insufficient power.

I think I narrowed my problem down to windows aero desktop theme stuff. After disabling it ive not really run into any errors *touch wood*!

Apparently ive not figured out the issue and im sick to death of it. Im looking for a sale of the card as it appears theres no fix for it.

Just a thought, got chrome open whilst gaming? My 970's would crash/stutter when I had chrome open in the background. It was a known issue allegedly; idk if they sorted it out or not.

Not usually no. I typically run my machine with things like Steam, Origin and things like razer comms and synapse (for my voice comms and mouse), corsair headset stuff.

I have noticed the chrome thing in the past though and learnt immediately what that was.

Crucial m4 ssd.

Which firmware is it on? Update it to the latest one. There's a bug with them that only manifests after 5200 hours of use, it will crash your PC every couple of hours until you fix it.

Could be that.

If this is the cause, good job for posting your whole spec.

You tried running memtest? most of my hard crashes over the years have been due to memory (unless its while OCing). I noticedin one of your other threads you said you ran a memory test program and it came back with lots of errors, but it was "too sensitive". What program was that?
