anyone play this? Info: A real cash economy FPS MMO Sandbox game, huge vibrant universe to explore and seek your fortune

(Basically, ingame currency is convertible into and out of real currency - you deposit £10, that's around 170 project entropia dollars, you can use these dollars to buy ammo, crafting materials, mining probes, Items etc, then you can go Hunt, craft, and Mine, with an eye to turning a profit!)

there's also the possibility of owning land areas (big bits of land) and Taxing people a % of their gains from hunting and mining etc, ingame Items have been known to sell for ridiculous sums (thousands of pounds) - usually the most economical/efficient items, for example - if gun A can dish out 3 damage per 0.01 PED, and gun B can only dish out 2.8 damage per 0.01 PED, gun A is far more economical and more likely to give you a good return on your hunting activities. - you can also own your own spaceship, or various other vehicles to travel from planet to planet or city to city, Volcano to Ravine - you get the idea.

if anyone wants to give it a go, let me know in the thread and i'll do my best to get you started out, ps: there is of course no guarantee of profit, it's a game for grown ups with (some) disposable income, personally i deposit around £10/week and im more or less even overall (i do own a gun worth about £100!)

I did for a bit about 5 or 6 years ago - I didn't realize it was still going!?
I do remember it was full of bugs and something about 'sweating' to get some money.

yeah it's going strong! been updated to use the Cryengine and has another 3-4 planets added since then, they are all massive - last year someone got the largest single loot so far ($25,000 dollars TT Value or something, lucky guy) and yes if you want to play for free you can still just 'sweat' animals (use a machine to extract vibrant sweat from them) and sell it to other players for a small amount, they have made the game much more accessible in recent years, a proper starting area on Calypso (the biggest planet with the most people) and improved UI and mentoring system, and they just added 'starter packs' (pay a fixed amount for some PED, a gun, some armor, a healing tool, etc)

basically for free you can explore your starting planet, and perhaps attempt to hitch a free ride to another one, and you're able to collect fruits and stuff from the floor or gather sweat and then sell these to other players (ps, very slow income) there is no subsciption but to get the most out of the game most people do deposit

I've never been tempted by these Second Life ish type of games but I guess it fills in some gaps for those that have the time for them.

there is a sort of second life-esque feel to it, but it's also a real mmo with stats and skills, quest, weapons and professions etc

I think I beta tested something called "Project Entropia" many many.... many years ago.

I play it for an hour or two every couple of weeks. It's a good enough way to pass the time. I've deposited real money into it, and have a handful of vehicles to get around in, including flying myself to other planets. Got a sniper rifle I like to take to the oil rig and troll the folks who hang out there. It's strong enough to take out a weakly armour newbie, doesn't really put a dent in the veterans though.

To be honest, the most fun I had with it was exploring calypso with another newbie I'd befriended, walking around trying to pick up all the teleporter locations and avoiding the scary beasties. Sometimes getting lifts from kindly strangers. It has never had quite the same charm since collecting all the TPs, and all the other planets have the other TPs already marked by default.

If I recall, the business model works by having items degrade at such a rate that it becomes next to impossible to break even by playing the game and selling items... has this changed?

Nope, of course not. If you're sensible, you abandon at the door any ideas of making a profit or breaking even. Depending on how much you play, it can end up costing more than if it simply had a subscription model.

As mentioned, you can get free money by using a newbie tool you get for free to extract "vibrant sweat" from animals. But it's a stupid annoying process that'll reward you pennies for hours of work.

Naturally more than 50% of people have to lose more money than they gain else there's no profit for the company, but there are definitely intelligent choices you can make to give yourself an edge: is why gambling laws don't apply to the game!

im pretty sure im at least even personally, perhaps slightly in profit! I have a friend who has deposited perhaps £2000 - £3000 and his acct is now worth at least £12,000, but naturally he's in the minority :p luckily i started playing with his guidance so i didn't make all the silly noob mistakes that feed mindark their huge profits!
