Hi there,

Getting back into photography, I currently have a Canon SX120is, which I bought for the full manual settings.

I am looking to upgrade to a DSLR, either new or second hand.

Just looking for a camera which is either new or second hand also cheap and cheerful, but a DSLR.

The kinds of things I shoot [Taken on the SX120]:

You will be looking at older bodies 2nd hand. IF you have severe budget constraints then I would suggest not to bother with a DSLR, they are very expensive system to buy into. the cameras themselves are small % of the total system cost. DSLR only comes into its own with appropriate lenses, filters, software, flashes, tripods, bags, lens cases, cleaning kits etc. What ever you spend on the body expect to pay 5 times that on everything else, not up front costs but system investment costs.

Some of the larger sensored compacts might be more appropriate investments because then you are all in from the onset for about 300 quid.

This is just a start up cost. I have disposable every month (Just started a higher paid job) - so I can buy new goodies every month :).

I already have a couple of flash guns and a tripod. I know lenses cost a fortune, but as long as I can get a DSLR with one lens (Stock) for now, I'll be happy, then at the end of next month start buying more things. This is the plan anyway.

I don't really want another compact, as I may aswell just stick with the one I have :p

Cheers,

What flash guns do you have? They are not always compatible on other cameras.

You mignht also consider saving up a bit, 300 wont get you too much even second hand if you include a lens. My pick would be something like a Nikon D90 and a 18-105 lens but you would have to stretch your budget a bit.

Why not wait a few months and get a Nikon D5100 for like £449.99 + £180 50mm 1.8 lens and sorted? Love mine was well worth the wait saving up for it.

Or the camera for like £540ish and then see if you want another lens other than kit.

I would save up 500+ and buy a more up to date camera and start off with a 35mm if nikon or 50mm 1.8 II with a Canon

I'll be putting my D3100 up for sale in afew days on MM, Has kit lens and SD card, Bought from a high street UK retailer so no Grey import.
