Hi all, I work away quite a lot and I don't want to monopolise the TV for games when I'm home so thinking of getting a gaming laptop. I don't really want the top of the range thing with the best Gpu just something I can play strategy type games like Starcraft and things like that, I do like the fps type games too but happy to play on lower settings if required. Some hotels have big TVs too so can always connect to that so something 15" or so would be ideal.

Currently sitting in premier inn with rubbish internet bored out of my mind so thought a half decent gaming laptop would give me something to do whilst being able to be used for work too (maybe)

Not really got a set budget in mind as I don't know what I'm looking for so seems silly to put a budget on something I don't know enough about.

Any help would be great, again mainly into rts, maybe fps on low settings, racing games and things that can be played offline as half the time when I'm away the net is awful so want to play things offline as well as online when I'm home.

Let me know :)

You need to have an idea on a budget but a 860m gpu or 850m should be enough, i think there is an asus here going for close to 800 should be good enough

Hey there, cheers I have seen an exdisplay msi ge60 for 620 and I'm basing the budget around that really, I'll pay more to get more if I need more if that makes any sense at all. But if that does the job then I'll probably go for that

cheers guys, what should I look for with the GPU, at this level what's the range I mean I see 840, 850, 860, 940 and all around this price level but I've no idea what's really best or best for me

Always go for the best you can afford GPU wise - these days the CPU and RAM (aslong as you have enough RAM) have more than enough performance even for most high end games but GPUs get out dated quickly (even if your not really planning on playing anything too recent I'd still recommend doing that).

^^what he said.

base your budget around the GPU.
consider the 2nd hand market as well. a 1yr old high end laptop will be miles ahead of a new mid range one.
