Looking to build a gaming PC for my son and only have a small budget of around £400.

Not expecting anything spectacular but need it to run Fortnite & Modern Warfare smoothly and handle day to day tasks for school work.

Can anyone help and recommend a good setup for this budget?

Currently I'm looking at...
- Ryzen 5 3400G
- Gigabyte A3200M
- Corsair LPX 8GB
- Antec 500W power supply
- 240G SSD

Thanks

Edit:I'm not sure whether I should go with dedicated graphics?

For £400 getting a dedicated GPU will be tight but going the used route would help a lot.. Saying that the 3400g and 2400g model Ryzens are pretty good for basic gaming.. Fortnite would be fine on those CPUs, I'm not sure on motherboard support for the 3400g it may have to be a B450 MAX board from MSI... I may be wrong though

I'm guessing you have a tv/monitor and keyboard/mouse you can use?

That spec should be fine for Fortnite but might struggle a little bit with Modern Warfare (I'm assuming it's the remaster of 2?), but wait for others to weigh in.

If you could stretch your budget to £500-550 you'd get a lot more for your money, but it's a really bad time to buy right now due to stock issues and rising prices thanks to Covid.

Your best bet is the second hand market to be honest, while we can't post links to competitors (second hand or new), if you were to find some stuff and ask in here we could tell you whether it was worth it or not.

Here's an example of what you could get for a higher budget:

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £532.89 (includes shipping: £0.00)

I realise you might not be able to stretch to it, and frankly some of it is out of stock right now, but it's worth knowing what you can get for that next jump in budget.

Thanks for the responses.

Ive also been searching for a used build to perhaps make life easier and came across this for roughly £400.

What do u think? Seems like a good deal?

The quad core is a bit of a letdown but overall that system will be better for gaming than the 3400G APU you were looking at.

You could always try to source a cheap 9400F or similar down the line to give it a bit of a boost.

I'm not hugely clued in on Intel motherboards however, and does it state the exact PSU model, GPU model, and RAM speed?

Problem with going with intel is that there is no scope for you to expand/upgrade your system down the line.

with an AMD system at least you got some options. For £400 it is really hard to get a decent gaming rig. You need at least £500.

also I would definitely go with a 1600AF or 2600 CPU for the extra cores. 1600AF can be had for around £88.

what gray has specced for you is pretty much spot on really other than the CPU. If you shop around and buy second hand you should be able to get close to your budget.

alternatively you can get second hand Haswell or Skylake system. Usually RAM, Mobo, CPU combined only cost around £120-150 on MM then you can spend a decent amount of money to get a RX5600 or GTX1660 etc

The prices are so high everywhere right now it's a nightmare tbh.

The 590 and RAM are 50% of his £400 budget alone to buy new when looking at the i3 build above.

Were I him I'd save another £100 and do exactly what you suggested, 1600AF or 2600 with the same sort of build I listed.

It's a shame OCUK never bothered to stock the 1600 AF, I'm running one myself and it's absolutely amazing for what I paid.
