environmentally friendly hard ware?

hi, any one got examples of more environmentally friendly hardware like the msi gx600 laptop giving 3x btter exhast than the air in the alps, and the jump from 65nm to 45nm transistors...

i need it for an essay for uni :P
 
Is it just the hardware or can you use examples of PC's that are very energy efficient? Not long ago Tomshardware had it's solar powered PC experiment, that was pretty cool.
 
A laptop exhausts hot air....the alps has cold air, thats about the only difference, except the air through your computer is allready polluted by the air around it. Sounds like a load of bull to me, unless theres a link to disprove that?

The best way to compare for the environment would be low power usage, companies that are carbon neutral, use recycled plastic etc.

The GX600 is a gaming laptop so it's hardly environmentally-friendly, when all said and done. There's absolutely nothing about it having "3x better exhaust" on their website, either.

Note that not only is it not proven, it is also not environmentally better because it tries to make the air "feel better" not remove pollution. MSI are claiming something that has absoloutly no ground to stand on. Its like saying "This Yakult type product is really good for you and will make you live longer", they don't and that has been proven, it's just marketing crap. So really it doesnt do anything for the enviroment except use more electricity to do it and therefore burning more fuel and creating more (even if insignificant) pollution from the power station.

I really think you need to look more into power saving as said before.

I think the OP, Is looking for a general topical conversation, With examples of Hard ware that's good or helps the environment.

Energy saving is the obvious way to go, But what sort of PC specific energy savers are there out there?

Lower nm processors and processors that slow down when not in use.

Also, PSUs that don't over do it on the wattage, a 1500000WATT PSU to run Office and Internet, With a 5200 graphics card. Is bad. and a waste :p

SSDs hardly use any power compared to standard HDDs.

:confused: Do you have any evidence that they fail more than other HDDs? Or do you mean that you wouldn't compromise on the speed for energy savings?

If so, then you don't really need huge speed to play back music and movies (which is what most people's hard discs are filled with).

I reckon that, a couple of fast SSDs in RAID0 for Windows and apps and one or two big 'green' storage drives would have awesome performance *and* be greener than a setup with many standard hdds.

Thats not what I meant. What I meant is, Is it only slower speeds that make the drive Green.

because I doubt it, As you can buy slower speed drives from anywhere, And they don't say they are environmentally friendly. I think something else is different within the drives. And what I'm saying is, The difference in the drive, Does it effect performance/reliability when compared to the none green drives.

From what I have read they are a bit naff, lower performance for saving a bit of power hmmm...
