Double garage roof (size roughly 5mx6m) was installed as a bodge job by some previous house owner (don't know how long ago) and it needs replacing after warping and leaking from poorly supported roof / missing joists.

Anyway, had a quote for EPDM rubber roof (one piece) laid over plywood base and joists re-fitted correctly for £1000 all-in (around £30m².) That's South East prices. Don't know what thickness or brand though.

Anyone had much dealings with such material? Was told a corrugated metal roof was cheaper but wouldn't last as long. I'd prefer the look of the black roof I think anyway.

I'm waiting to hear back from other roof fitters for quotes, so in the meantime would chuck this post on here!

Also have a look at fibreglass roofing, just had my workshop done with it, very impressed with it.

Make sure you use 18mm exterior plywood or 18mm OSB3 (sterling board) for the deck.

And if you go with EPDM, make sure the person is experienced in laying it.

Ta for that.

Just had a quick look into the fibreglass roofing and it appears that it's more expensive than EPDM rubber, it does look neat though.
If I was doing a building that was attached to the house (like a 1 level flat roof extension) then I'd seriously consider the fibreglass.
As it's a garage at the end of the garden, the EPDM will be fine I think.

It will come with a 20 year warranty and the roofer said he has worked with it a lot and appears to know what he's talking about ( and he picked up all the bodged parts of the roof construction straight off.)

Cheers
