Used one of the last intel ones as a linux lifeboat installer... Have to say, it was dreadful.. These are cheap but I got a bit stung on these last time.

Can't really complain at £5 each, even if they're not the fastest, especially if they'll happily format to NTFS unlike some other cheap/nasty ones I've tried before.

I use a few of the old ones. One holds my Win 7 install on it. Can't fault them. Ordered one of these as a Linux install disk.

Was thinking the samething to put on the os or win7 installation on it but then thinking 1meg read/writes it would takes hours to install windows 7 surely ?

If the read speeds average about 20MBps it should be plenty fast enough to install windows quickly.

JasonM's results above were:
Seq Read 22.38
Seq Write 5.746
512k Read 22.77
512K Write 0.492
4k Read 4.929
4k Write 0.004

I've got a few Kingston 4GB's and they're not much faster than that, and they 2-3x as much (although they do have 5yr warranty)

Not sure about this new version but getting 24-25 meg read out off my older version. Also access speed is nearly instant.

Unfortunately mine is different to the picture and has no way of attaching to my keyring as its the enter+ctrl type shame really as that would have been handy.
