Basically, i had finally figured out a way to cable tidy the Stacker 831,was really happy put it back together, plugged everything in, turned it on, nothing for 10 secs then BOOM it poped and a flash of light came from the bottom of the motherboard. Im guessing its fried the motherboard, I do have a fairly decent OCZ stealth PSU, so im hoping nothing has gone with it, is there a chance it has? Im going to my grandads tomorrow to test the graphics card, because thats the most expensive part in my PC. If anyone has done something similar, was your system fine apart from the motherboard, and what most likely caused it? im guessing the case got contact with the mobo somehow, does this sound correct?

Thanks in advanced

did you do any modifications to the mobo tray, such as cut out holes in it etc to allow cable management? and if so did you make sure to remove all fillings for the case. also any chance anything fell into the psu, a screw for example?

hope your gpu/cpu and ram survived btw

my asus p5ne-sli popped and flashed a few weeks ago, also done a cable sort out ironically

was a chip on mobo fried/melted... bought a new mobo and everything else has been working fine ever since

I still have all cables done the same, same case etc etc and had old mobo for about 3 years.

it could be either of them to, come to think of it, i did hear a little rattle when putting it back. I did clear all the fillings of the mobo tray, and wiped it I remember. I did also drill 2 holes, its not possible that the cables at the back of the case are doing anything wrong is it?

Im only worried about the gfx card, because most of my computer was <£50 part wise, but GPU was £168 :(

Ill update later when I have tried it.

Thanks so far

EDIT: I did turn the CPU heatsink the other way around so the fan was facing the top instead of the bottom, but that should have been fine right?

Tested my GFX card and ram, and they are both working great, shook my PSU a little could not hear anything. Ordered the same Mobo, coming tomorrow. I just hope I dont blow it again...

Sounds like a loose screw shorted out behind the mobo..glad to hear your components are working.

I had the same it was a short at the back of the mobo, I forgot to mount the mobo on stand offs, what a rookie mistake!

At least if it fries the new one you can just send it back as faulty.

good to hear your gpu/ram etc survived. seeing as you're putting a new motherboard in, might be worth taking another look in the case for any build up of filings, esp in the corners of the case. a bit of sticky tape should gather up any hard to reach bits. let us know how it all goes with the new board in place.
