Epic Fail RAM

So my new system build didn't go as planned

I put (8GB) 2x 4GB Corsair Vengeance sticks into a ASUS Sabertooth Z77 Mobo.

Then I pooped in a CPU and then tried to fit a Be Quiet! Dark Rock Pro 2 Cooler onto that, but guess what??

The cooler blocks all 4 RAM slots on the board with nowhere near enough clearance for the Vengeance sticks and so I cannot use this memory with the cooler in place.

Now I bought this cooler specially for it's silent properties.

Anybody else encountered this issue before?

And here comes a question I already know the answer to......Can anything be done to make it work, or do I just go buy different memory?

So what RAM do I buy that is similar to the Vengeance but will fit the Mobo with the ****** cooler in place?

i guess you have a couple of options:

1. remove the heatsinks from your existing ram - risky
2. buy low profile ram (and try sell the existing ones for as little loss as possible) - expensive
3. get a different cooler - possibly least expensive option

I had similar problem when I bought my vengeance memories as well, I sold them and got some vengeance low profile.

but before selling them I spoke to corsair and they told me that I should send the memories to Corsair and they would send low profile ones back.

so you have 3 options:
1-Send back under DSR,
2-Sell your memories,
3-Send to corsair to get a replacement.

Great cooler, keep it .

As a temporary measure you can put the front fan on the rear of the cooler.

This will free up 1, if not 2 slots ( Slots 3 and 4 ).

You can put i single stick in to carry on testing/building, then pop low/normal sized ram in later.

You can put low profile ram into slots 2 and 4 without the need to remove the heatsink again - Then clip the fan back on the front afterwards.

I had the same issue with the Vengeance ram, and a silver arrow. The heatsinks come of easily. There is only thermal pads used to stick the ram, to the heatsink, a gentle pull and off they pop.

There are plenty of videos on how to remove the heatskins. A bit of heat and they come off no problems. You can also pick up low profile replacement heatskins if you look around.
