Episode 1 Woes!

Hey guys,
I just got HL2 Ep1 today and I installed it on my newly formatted windows XP and wenever I try to open it, it says an error has occured and it it says preparing to launch etc. and it installed fine, but nothing loads up, its a an instant error

Anyone know how to fix this?

Disk is in and everything, I have no idea what the problem is :confused:

All other steam games work fine

just a bump, and ive tried reinstalling Ep1 and reinstalling steam and nothing is wortking currently

Anyone think it could be driver-related or a dodgy disk

?

It shouldn't be a dodgy disk, it shouldn't need to use the disk at all I don't think, try it without it in.

Does it give any detail on the error?

Have a search of the steam forums, see if anybody there has had similar problems.

I tried it without disk and no luck, and tehres not really any info on the error

my friend found none of his steam apps would run until he did this.

You have the laters graphics/sound/chipset drivers installed as well as windows up to date? DirectX 9.0c all installed okay?

If you've installed it from a CD, you could try deleting it and then downloading it through steam. It will know that your account has this game and should download it just by right clicking on the game in the My Games tab and selecting install.

This is a real long shot, but I found recently that my Steam progs all stopped working, Turned out that while I'd been 'fine tuning' my sys, the date had mysteriously changed to 2096 or something. On changing the date back to 2006 in Windows, everything started working again.
