Going back to this post it does indeed seem to be the PSU, testing all wires on the 24pin and 8 pin connectors with a volt meter report fine, but putting a differant psu on to the board and it posts,

So now i need a new PSU but need some recommendations.

It needs to be 24 pin and 8 pin EPS,
A power calculator on Antecs site says i need 540W so looking for something 650+
What brands should be avoided? what is recommended?
And can anyone recommend any models in particular? it must have an 8 pin connector for the CPU's.

Thanks

With the wattage you need I would go Corsair, superb quality amazingly quiet HX620 would be my choice.

Fire Wizard, specs are

Asus PCH-DL mainboard
2 X 1.6GHz LV Xeon @ 2 X 3.2GHz
Radeon X800
1.5Gig PC3200 DDR (expecting to up this soon)
1 X 400GB samsung spinpoint (sata2)
2 X Maxtor 250GB
PCI 5 port USB card
Soundblaster platinum + live drive
DVD/RW
----------------
Fans
4 X 120mm
2 X intel wind tunnel standard fans on CPU's
1 X 80mm

Giving roughly those specs, and a little extra for growth, then taking off 25% for long term capacitor drop the calculator gave 540W
I plan to up the drive capacity soon, not sure how yet, may look at hot swap and take out full drives containing stuff i dont need full time access to, but i would expect to end up with another 2 hard drives permanently inside.

I think that covers everything, but its just off the top of my head.

sammie377 thanks i will have a look at the corsair options.

Keep the recommendations coming.

The HX520 Corsair would be fine for that system save a few quid:D

For £18 i would feel happier with the 620W,
And arent PSU's supposed to be more effeciant at lower loads? so the 620W would be more efficant running my system than the 520W.

Other than the CPU and graphics what are the big pulls on the 12V rail?
Hard drives then optical drives?
anything else after that or is everything else useing other rails?
