New build, new EVGA P2 Supernova 1000w psu and the Asus Maximus VII Hero motherboard.

The psu has an 8pin (psu) to 2x4pin EPS12v cable to supply the cpu. The motherboard has a single 8pin socket marked as EATX12v for this purpose. The motherboard manual shows either an 8 pin connection or a single 4pin connection.

I believe I'm meant to plug both 4 pins into the socket, however it isn't clear from any manuals. The 4+4 pin eps12v cable doesn't have clips to connect together like I've seen in the past but does have offset retaining clips which appear to suggest I can and should use them side by side in the 8pin EATX12v mobo socket.

I hope I've made it clear. Can some folks shed some light on whether I should plug in both 4 pins or just one? I don't wish to fry any components just yet!
TIA

No problem, i've seen psus with variations of this connector, snap together, single plugs and sometimes just the whole EPS connector block, which is the most annoying as if there's no side clearance on a board with the P4 12v connector only it won't fit without an adapter.
