Epson C82 will only print in Black & White..help!

Hi all,

I could really use some help with my Epson Stylus C82. The problem is basically that it will only print in Black & White. I have just installed some brand new colour cartridges, but absolutely no colour ink comes through.

I don't have 'black ink only' ticked and I have tried printing at various different quality levels.

Any ideas what might be causing this?

Have you have taken off the little plastic shield that covers the inkjets on the new cartridge/s??

I think they're just a thin film that is pierced in the process of installing the cartridge...?

Nope - you gotta peel them off (unless they've invented a new type i havent seen before).

the printer head pierces them, have you taken the blue/yellow strip off the top of the cartridges?.

The printer itself will pierce the little square bits of plastic covering the nozzle holes. You just need to remove the large bluey coloured strips from the carts.

Is it still just printing black when you print a test print directly from the printer?
Is the printer BRAND new? If not, it might have stood for a while resulting in blocked nozzles/heads (Epsons are notorious for this). Make sure you have the right drivers installed too. Also the status monitor is quite useful for checking levels. Use the maintainence tools to do a nozzle check.

I just installed an Epson today, and it mentioned shaking new cartridges before use... You could try that...

Thanks for your replies everyone. If it was the case that the mozzles were clogged, how would I *unclog* them?

I may try shaking the cartridges.

I have already peeled off the plastic sticky things.

The printer should have a printer head clean function in its software (or maybe a button press on the printer itself).
