Trying to install a epson stylus c66 printer on my laptop thats running xp home.
Keep getting this error

Ive not used the printer for about a year, i had it working fine on my old xp pro desktop.
Also the epson monitor software cant read the printer.

Try this link , it mentions about overclocking issues (response no. 2)

might help, might not - had problems with my epson before so i know how frustrating it is.

Cheers for the reply, tho nothing is overclocked as its my laptop im trying to install the printer on.

Dont think so, its the Acer oem install of xp home.
Just tried another cable and different usb ports, no luck
Cant install on my desktop as thats vista and theres no vista drivers on epsons site :/

I can truly understand your frustration,

If i was in your position (and i have been there  )

I would be thinking of a new install and back up of personal files, some system files might or must be corrupt if it is not a hardware issue.

If you have your HD partioned then a fresh install is not as daunting as it sounds but this is only a printing issue. Can you borrow a friends printer or do you definetely know that it is only a problem with your C66...

Hang about..Are you on Vista now (you mentioned it earlier) if so then i am 90% sure it's a driver issue.

If not, then this is a baffler.

Vista has a lot of printer drivers built in, including the Epson C66 :)

do the USB ports come up in the "ports" tab in the properties window of a printer? (if the epson printer is the only one you got, just add anyone in to test it)

Cheers JohnnyG

Ok, that confirms that, so what is it?

My only two other thoughts are:

1: You may have an older printer set as your default. (Sorry if already done) but check your printer properties

2: It could be a very harsh spyware or even a virus (just PURELY guessing out aloud)

Sorted it this afternoon, just plugged the printer into my desktop , seems vista comes with epson drivers :)

Still strange that i couldnt install on my lappy and i didnt really want the printer on my desktop as thats my gaming rig, oh well got my letter printed o/

Cheers for the replys.
