Epson R200 - out of ink!?!

I have an Epson R200 printer. It ran out of ink recently, so I replaced the black ink cartridge. It will still not let me print out in black and white tho.

I have a simple word document (letter) that I want to print. How can I overcome this, without spending £30 on toner catridges right now?

Thanks

I had the same problem with the R220
i just removed the black cartaridge and cleaned the inlet (small hole the ink goes in on printer) with a cotton bud, then ran the headcleaner utility a couple of times..... :D

hope this helps??

All cartridges need to have ink in them even if you only want to use black.

My C84s like that.
It decides if it's got ink, and only if it has will it print. (all colours just to print black)

Not the same printer, but Epson nonetheless. My RX500's black cartridge doesn't work after a nice flatmate jammed up the inside and consequently blocked up the head. Any advice on how I might restore the black printing function other than cleaning the heads and switching it on and off? The nozzle check prints 2 tiny black lines at the moment, and the other cartridges are fine. I don't really want to buy a new cartrigde, as I don't think it'll make a difference (Epson heads aren't replaced with the cart right?). It has 100%ink by the way.

My last Epson was the same.

Purely and simply a con by Epson ( and other manufacturers ) to make money.

They lower the price of the printers and screw you on the consumables.

My current printer is a Canon Pixma IP3000 which uses individual ink cartridges , you replace each one as they run out ( approx £2.00 per cartridge )

At the time it was approx £80 and I could have got a printer for half that. But after 18 months of faultless , quality printing it has more than paid for itself.

Look for a printer that uses individual cartridges i.e Canon

Cheers,

Mark

1) Head clean, Cancel nozzle check,
2) Head clean, Cancel nozzle check, (Yep, 2nd time)
3) Head clean, do nozzle check,

Works for 95% of severe blockages

Otherwise:-
Google for "SSC Utility"

Set the 2 options to your printer model, and do the "Powerful Head Cleaning"

EDIT:-
Either one will hammer your Ink levels. Get a new set of Printrite cartridges... Cheap, good quality. I trust my £350 1290 A3+ printer with them.

Hang onto it then cos I understand canon have started to chip cartridges on the newer printers.
If you try to find a IP3000 now, you'll just get "No longer available for sale".

After switching my printer back on after 2 days of it being off, the problem seems to have cleared itself. I've downloaded that utility anyway for future use. Cheers for the help!

I've doen several hundred photo's usiong jet tec inks for my epson 200 then 220, and haven;t had any problems. They also do a continuous ink system now I think. Prices are much less than epson, so worth a look.

Epson's do a mini-head clean on Powerup. That probably solved it.

okay, compare Jet-Tec (Or most other Compatible inks) to Print-rite, and you'll see a helluva difference. Been through about 8 brands to get my colours right.

I'm printing on 260GSM Bright White High Gloss paper, so this mainly applies to higher-end prints.

Oh, and I've seen dodgy chips on Jet-Tec kill printers...

Have you tried XPrint ( my Canon compatables ) ?

No complaints here.

No mate, don't use Canon Printers :D

Dare say they are fine though... My problem is with Jet-Tec, Sumvision, InkWrite etc... Jet-Tec especially:mad:

used about 20 sets of Jettec and not had any problems with chips, ink clogging, colour repro or fading.

I'll have a look at print-rite though, can't hurt, thanks

It maybe silly but did u remember to "rip-off" the plastic things on the top of the cartridge? i think it lets air into the cartridge so the ink comes out! It usually has an arrow on it!
