Its a great game I tried it for a while got to level 30+
But the engine is god-damn awful. Runs like a dog and doesnt look that pretty. A great shame because imo it is the best mmo out there for content and scope, the world is so big I doubt it would be possible to see it all.
I disagree, with EVERYTHING turned up to max it actually looks really quite lovely, (in places) especially when you consider how old it is, sadly, there isn't a computer on this planet that can run it at those max settings.
From what my brother was telling me, no you wont be able to play your old characters unless you pay for gold subscription.
They intended with the engine, that with progression in hardware as would the engine. Although I think performance actually gets worse on newer hardware in some cases.
Yeh great game. One of the last that had some semi decent death penatally. A lot less hand holding that most other mmo's. Made you think twice before taking on mobs. I think its probably all got too easy like other mmo's now. They didnt keep enough of the original player base to actually keep the game hard.
Didnt the first EQ make you loose a random inventory/equipt item? Now thats more like it!

It runs decent on the spec below. Gets playable FPS in the more intense arees but really it should fly on the same PC and it doesn't. I've heard lots of execuses/reasons why but it just a badly programmed game engine.
It was coded for the then touted superfast single core cpu's, hardware went to multicore instead and thus the engine has never gained much from advances in modern cpu tech as it fails to take advantage of multicores. It could be the best piece of coding ever, you'd never know it though because it was coded for something other than what we have.
The first EQ, you died, EVERYTHING stayed on your corpse. If you couldn't get back to it, you lost everything. Proper MMO![]()
