Hi all, I heard that this is going free to play on Tuesday. Is it possible for me to start playing my lvl31 necro that hasn't been played in6 years? I can still get into my account but not sure if this will be possible?

From what my brother was telling me, no you wont be able to play your old characters unless you pay for gold subscription.

Its a great game I tried it for a while got to level 30+

But the engine is god-damn awful. Runs like a dog and doesnt look that pretty. A great shame because imo it is the best mmo out there for content and scope, the world is so big I doubt it would be possible to see it all.

Yea what I thought... Death debt really annoyed me, and I had a quick go one the other free version and it's still there. I doubt I'll bother playing it... Just wait for guild wars 2, that should be great.

I disagree, with EVERYTHING turned up to max it actually looks really quite lovely, (in places) especially when you consider how old it is, sadly, there isn't a computer on this planet that can run it at those max settings.

yea i remember when it first came out i had to reboot every hour or so because the game had a memory leaked memory every time you zoned lol

brilliant game though

Yea it's a shame it didn't hit the big time like wow did, for the 5months I did play it though it was amamzing. The atmosphere and music for it was immense.

They intended with the engine, that with progression in hardware as would the engine. Although I think performance actually gets worse on newer hardware in some cases.

Lots of incompatablity it seems.

You should be if they fall into the "free" race/class categories. A necro doesn't though. Didn't mention the chars race.

It runs decent on the spec below. Gets playable FPS in the more intense arees but really it should fly on the same PC and it doesn't. I've heard lots of execuses/reasons why but it just a badly programmed game engine.

Yeh great game. One of the last that had some semi decent death penatally. A lot less hand holding that most other mmo's. Made you think twice before taking on mobs. I think its probably all got too easy like other mmo's now. They didnt keep enough of the original player base to actually keep the game hard.

Didnt the first EQ make you loose a random inventory/equipt item? Now thats more like it!

No to both. Death penalty been nurfed into the ground. You get exp loss and item demage but it's no biggy.

It was coded for the then touted superfast single core cpu's, hardware went to multicore instead and thus the engine has never gained much from advances in modern cpu tech as it fails to take advantage of multicores. It could be the best piece of coding ever, you'd never know it though because it was coded for something other than what we have.

No it sucked even back then. I recall many bugs that killed the FPS on my 6800 nvidia card, even though it had the Nvidia "The way it meant to be palyed" logo blasted everywhere.

Plus multicore and powerful GPUs aren't new they've had years to fix it. No excuses.

The first EQ, you died, EVERYTHING stayed on your corpse. If you couldn't get back to it, you lost everything. Proper MMO :p

never to be repeated as mmos have turned into a single player experience for the most part.

its a shame really because you dont get anywhere near a true mmo experience anymore i remember beeing terrified of leaving the paths :D

some of the dungeons like that castle in the forest not far from freeport were full of puzzles aswell nothing was made easy or spoon fed.

the raids actually felt heroic and the player crafted items for the most part were pretty damn good i remember the armor crafters and the adept/mastery spells making people tons of platinum

So not knowing much about this...

Is this a good f2p mmo to get into? How is it limited compared to paying for the game, what do I miss out on. If I don't invest a penny will I enjoy myself and be occupied for ages.

Thanks :)

The money limit and the restriction of the best items (legendary/fabled) will hurt at max level but it’s ok for the most part.

However, I would drop a fiver to get the “silver" level access.
