Equalise volume across all tracks in iTunes

I have tried the search button and can't find what I'm after, I've also tried the help button on iTunes all to no avail. The apology is in case it has been asked before, because it seems to me the type of thing that should have been asked about.

What it is, my iTunes library is quite extensive and I have music from numerous sources. Some has come from translations from vinyl to CD to MP3, some from various CDs (some possibly copies) some from iTunes Store some from Amazon and some directly from groups profiles on purenation, my space and Facebook.

The problem is that the volume on all is different. I'll be driving along in the car and turn the volume up on one track and then the very next track is so loud it almost shatters car windows three streets away.

Is there a way of equalising the volume in one fell swoop without going through 20k tracks or more individually to try and get some uniformity.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

There is an option in iTunes preferences to equalise the volume for all tracks, I can't remember exactly where it is as I don't use iTunes anymore.

Just done a quick Google, try this - https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT201724

EDIT - I've adjusted the thread title to something more fitting for you

Thank you kind sir, will try that.

Not sure if it was written in Arabic or Greek, far to technical for an old fart like me. However as that said a Mac and I don't have one it would not have solved the problem anyway. What I did do, whether it will work or not remains to be seen next time I update my iPod and am playing the tunes that were previously playing soft/loud will I find out, I clicked on edit select all, there was an option for get info, in which under the options section was an equaliser which I have altered to click on loudness, hopefully that might solve the problem, iIf it does and anyone else has had the same problem perhaps that might help.
