I hate the wierd and wonderful key combinations to print screen on a Mac so does anyone have any recommendation for a good equivalent of the Windows Snipping tool for Mac?

Can see a few in the App Store but dont know which are worth a look.

Basically just after simple functionality of an icon in the doc that launches a cursor to select the area of the screen to grab and lets me select where to save it and in what format.

Skitch, but the :

Shift + Command + 4 isn't too hard to remember, but it does create a jpeg to the desktop.

Yeah, (not as nice as PrtScn button though!), its the desktop thing that annoying though as normally have to then open it in preview, crop it and then save to wherever its needed and delete the desktop copy.

cmd-ctrl-shift-4 copies to your pasteboard without creating an image on your desktop :)

And you could use Bettertouchtool to create an easier to press shortcut of that if you desire.

You could setup an automator script to detect any .png I think it is named Screen Shot on the desktop, auto crop it to a specific size, copy it to a specific folder then delete it from the desktop?
