Erm... My D40x is making a "fizzing" noise like a bomb about to explode.

Any ideas? I've tried googling but there's nothing.

It happens once every 5-10 mins and it lasts about 5 seconds.

It sounds like an old fashioned flash unit charging up, mixed with the fizzing sound of freshly poured cola.

Really weird. At first I thought it was the capacitor in my flash about to explode or something. Almost had a heart attack as I dashed to the bathroom to throw it in the bath. But it's actually the camera making the noise.

I've taken the battery out and the lens is off and it's still making the noise.

That is rather stange, I have a D60 which is pretty much the same camera with a different firmware and never heard that noise from my camera...

Has your camera been subjected to condensation or moisture at all?

Could it be the backup CR type battery making the noise? I've no idea if D40x even has one but assume it does.

I guess it's possible then the main Li-ion battery could be having issues, but it's unlikely to go bang as there should be a protection circuit to prevent this.

Asim, are you using an aftermarket/3rd party battery?
