the other week i noticed a bright spot on the glass on my beloved 4 year old iiyama vmpro crt and since then i've been rubbing at it trying to get rid of it but nothing has shifted it so i came to the conclusion it was a tiny scratch. so of i went rummaging through my tool box and found some autosol, hmmmm this might smooth out the scratch i thought so i applied a tiny blob to a rag and set to it, tiny spot becomes larger brighter spot becomes thumb sized brighter area right in the middle of the screen, doh!!!!

i guess that tiny bright spot was some missing anti-glare anti-static coating. i can't stop looking at it arrgghhhhhh hmm what do do? should i autosol the whole screen? would this be bad on my eyes? time for a new monitor? the viewsonic vp930 sure does look nice.

yeah yeah give me the stupid hat :p

update, went at the whole thing for 5 hours with a damp plastic scourer and autochrome metal polish stuff, the screen is much brighter with some slight moiring down the left/right edges where it's hard to get a good circuler motion going so once my arm has recovered i might try polishing the glass up with some toothpaste maybe, donno if that'll work though. i reckon i saved myself 300 quid and ended up with a brighter monitor woohoo :)

yup its all off, it was quite reflective before and now its just a bit more reflective, but the extra brightness makes up for it.
