erratic mousepad

hi, just bought a new compaq v5000 laptop and installed vista but quite regularly the mouse pad goes mad and starts skittering over the screen and doing random functions, any way to fix this? cheers

yip latest software installed, its odd works fine then all of a sudden goes off on one and does it own thing. v annoying

its showing signs of a knackered touch pad it would seem, you could try reseating the connector by taking the strip cover off and keyboard, screws underneath in battery, usually have little triangle arrows for the strip, keyboard symbols for the keyboard, if that fails its new touchpad time
