Error 1607

Trying to install Silent Hunter III but keep getting the following error:

I've googled the problem and tried all the possible solutions but none of them seem to work. It appears to be a problem with the Install software on my windows install. The problem also occurs on COD2.

I searched these fine forums but the same error on COD2 and solution haven't solved my problems.

Any ideas greatly accepted

Already got the latest installed I think (v3.0?) and as for the link i've tried all of that but no luck

Be careful using it for the obvious reasons. But i had a problem similar to yours and found that there was a half installed installation, corrupted, that once removed solved the issue.

That didn't work. It doesn't even run. It comes up with "The windows installer service could not be accessed. This can occur if you are running Windows in safe mode or if the windows installed is not correctly installed."

Got a feeling I might need to do a reinstall of XP.
