Error connecting to Steam

steam.exe(main exception):To run Steam, you must first connect to the
internet

I have googled the problem and see it is very common, the thing is with me
it came on with no changes to anything, just stopped working. Was playing Battlefield, had a ctd and then i started getting the error.
So its nothing to do with firewalls or network setting as one second working then the next second it wasnt.

This is really frustrating because i hardly ever get to play games and now this.
Please help

One presumes you are connected to the internet?

yes i am connected to the internet, no i am not using any of those twist3d

Since the CTD, have you restarted the computer?

Have you tried reinstalling the client? Possible a file became corrupted when your game crashed.

Backup the steamapps folder (ie your games) and it takes 5 minutes.

Before this, try deleting the clientregistery.blob file

I have had the same problem in the past, and the above fixed it.

If ClientRegistry.blob does not fix your issue

then

Delete AppUpdateStats.blob.

It fixed my issue with not being able to log in after a crash.
