Hey guys, last night i left my new build downloading a 7gb bf3 patch. Seeing as it wasnt really doing anything i decided to power down all the fans to about 50%. Woke up this morning and its off, fired it up and get the option to boot into safe mode as Windows didnt shut down correctly.

Is there any way of finding out exactly why it didnt shut down correctly? The patch installed successfully so i imagine its going to have something to do with that, id just rather be sure thats all.

cheers :)

Start -> Search programs and files -> Event Viewer
Look for anything under Critical (or Error)

Have a check of your power save settings too as these may have forced the computer to shut down or another scheduled process/ processes.

I even had my computer at one time turning on in the middle of the night to start a weekly defrag!

If you select 'System' on the left, you'll get the list of entries. You can scan down to see what the 'Critical' entries were.
