Far cry did that on me all the time. Only got fixed once a started overclocking and increased my ram voltage from 2.6 to 2.7. Maybe not the kind of answer you were looking for

btw: have same ram as you

Thanks mame

Does that mean it is down to the ram? Is the ram you have 2x 1gb 0r 4x 512 sticks? I have 4x 512.

I have 4 x 512mb. I'm not sure, i found out by complete accident as i was playing far cry a lot at the time and then started slowly overclocking. fixed same problem on a mates PC aswell (who also has the same RAM) geils specs are 2.55v-2.9v i think and my board autodetected it at 2.6v so i just bumped it up to 2.7v. Still well within geils limits. Give it a try and if it works the great, if it doesnt put it back to 2.6v. Let us know

As i have never done any overclocking before could you tell me how it is done? Would i only need to do the ram?

First of all let me say that there is no logical reason for this to fix the problem. Like i said i found out by complete accident but it did fix it, and i have the same RAM as you. I was spending many hours on far-cry at the time (mainly dying) and it went from crashing every 5-30min to not crashing at all. Increasing the ram voltage is not overclocking in itself its just a tweak that some people have to do to help their overclock along. Check the geil site for your exact memory kit and see what the quoted voltages are. Pretty sure it will say 2.55v-2.9v then go into your bios screen and see what your board has decided the voltage will be. For me it was 2.6v so quite low compared to geils specs. I increased it to 2.7v and thats the way its been for about a year now with no problems. When i'm overclocking i tend to take things quite slow, only changing one setting at a time, and leaving a day or two in between each setting i change and thats how i found out.

So the 2.55V-2.95V shown on overclockers is the voltages i can go between? Just that i couldn't find this info on the Geil site.

Well i had a look in the bios and it is showing a default voltage of 2.60 then there is something underneath (can't remember what it was) that said +0.10 and then under that it said volage is 2.70. So it looks like it is already set at that. Is this right?

yeah thats it. Just give it a try and see it resolves your problem. If not, change it back
