I am unable to rip any cd's to my computer using windows media player. Every time I try to do it, it will error and says something like "Windows Media Player can't rip the CD because the disc is dirty or damaged" but the disk itself isn't dirty or damaged at all and reads in other cd/dvd drives I have tried it in.

I also tried it in my PS3 and it reads/rips no problems. I have tried the DVD drive in my mates PC (which is vista x64) and it works fine... so this is no doubt a software/firmware/codec issue. I am up-to-date firmware wise, using the latest Windows Media Player (I forget which it is ) and using the CCCP codec pack. I have vista x64... but don't think this is causing any issues as my mates PC has x64 too and I didn't get the problems. I did have x64 on a previous install and it worked fine though. On this relatively new install I have pretty much the same software/codecs installed as I did at the time it worked.

I'm a little stumpted as to what the issue could be. The microsoft site wasn't much help either, and have googled it but not found much at all. I would try uninstalling Windows Media Player, but its a built in component so can't uninstall (that im aware of).

Any ideas would be much appreciated. Thanks folks!

I'd use cdex instead I have wmp but don't use it for anything I use vlc for video and media monkey for mp3's.

Thanks so far!

Unfortunately I have tried several other programs (EAC, winamp, musicmatchjb and itunes) but they all come back with errors when ripping a CD. I have tried removing any codec packs i had but still no luck. I am stumped on this one :S

Anyone have any more ideas?

Thanks chaps

P.S. It won't actually even play any tracks from the CD even without ripping them. Something is definitely funky with my PC lol.

All CD's generate the error's.

I haven't tried a different drive in my PC, but I have taken this drive over to my mate and it worked fine. I might be able to get hold of another drive to try it in my PC.

Thanks!
