hey guys im having trouble installing windows but when im in the dos section at the start i get this error msg...

"An unexpected error (769) occured at line 5182 in d:/xpsprtm/base/boot/setup/setup.c.

Press any key to contine"

then it goes onto say

"Setup either detected multiple disks in your machine that are indisthinguishable or detected raw disk(s). Setup has corrected the problem, but a reboot is required

Setup cannot continue. Press any key to exit."

and i dont know what to do, my spec is

asus p5w dh deluxe
geil ultra latency ddr2 2gb
256mb his ati radeon 1900
intel core 2 e6600
wd raptor 36gb
seagate 250gb

just been looking at the disc and there is a very small little dot on the disc that doesnt come off, could it be this causing the error?

will i need to send it back to ocuk?

1 Are your harddrives detected in the bios

2 Do you need Sata drivers(most likely no but ho hum}

Try again check drives in the bios set dvd drive to boot and see what happens.
Also disconnect one of your drives and just leave the raptor plugged in(which is where you want xp)then just put xp on your raptor as you can sort the other disk out later.

It does say setup has fixed the problem and needs a reboot, you did reboot and let xp try to install again yes/no?

both hard drives are detected in the bios, and i tried only using the raptor earlier and it still didnt work.

Have you tried installing XP on the seagate 250gb, with the raptor disconnected? That will tell you if the problem is with the raptor, or something else.

just tried on only the seagate and it still didnt work :(

is it possible it might be the disc itself? as it has a very small mark on it.

Then if you think its the disc RMA it i`m not sure how you go about this as its software, have you got another copy of XP you can try/buy?

that disk will not read atall with that mark on it. i had 2 disks with it on and they wouldnt do anything. you'll have to send it back and ask them to test it. you should get another as it is a manufacturing fault on the disk

ok thx guys, just e-mailed oc

oh and i aint got any more copys of xp which is really annoying so i cant even use my new build untill i get a new disc :(

Is the dot on the disc not a form of copy protection?

Ive had software disc's in the past that use a method much like that.
My copy of Sony Vegas is one of them.

Looks like a spec of glue but its not. I might be wrong.

nah, its a fault on the disk i dont know how it happens but i had it on 2 disks i had and it wont read atall.
