Hi all.

New here looks a very helpful place and i need help with this please?

I have a i5 3570 cpu
16 gigs of mem
7950 3 gig gfx card
gigabyte motherboard
win 7 service pack 1

Recently only when browsing the internet via crome browser.
My screen locks up, flashes a few colours then i get a white screen and have to restart the pc, sometimes it stays on for hours then sometimes it freezes and and i have to restart.
In games it does not crash at all?
Only when browsing the internet which is weird?
I have reset bios to default.
Updated to latest and older driver(older one seemed more stable).
Any ideas what it could be please?
I am stomped.

Thankyou.

Chrome is a memory hog so this points to RAM usage. Try running Prime95 in RAM-intensive mode. However it could also be VRAM, so disable GPU usage in Chrome - a bad bit in VRAM will just result in a texture with minor corruption that you might not notice, but Chrome uses the GPU for work.

There is a problem with chrome and or youtube and latest windows update on some systems (beyond my level of understanding). Try going back to previous windows version and not allowing updates until you've checked it.

how old is your psu? and was it a decent make? PSU's can start to diminish in their power output over time. I had a phenom PC that wa 8-10 yrs old and started to have errors retrieving and saving data. I disconnected the HDD's one at a time and the remaining HDD's worked fine. I even put them into another PC and they were fine there. However when they were all together the PC had problems (at the 8 to 10yr old mark). I think that my PSU was not performing as well as when it was new.

I cant remember win 7 now, but in win 10 you can reset windows (OK it deletes the installation of your software but for me it has recovered errors in windows). Perhaps you need to reinstall windows?

Hi sorry for the late replies.

I transferred the memory into opposite slots as it is all the same make, seemed more stable when i done this.
I have just stress tested the mem via windows and no errors occurred.
Stressed tested my cpu with prime95 for 23 mins, no errors.
Just done a stress test using msi afterburner for my gfx card, although poor frames per second, no errors occurred?
Weird.
Maybe it is windows as i run win 7 spk1 have done for years?
Psu i bought, the older one packed up literally 1 month ago and i know have a new one.
Any ideas as i still get lock ups but not as much since i changed the slots round of the mem?

Thanks .

Bear in mind a full stress test can take hours/overnight, especially for RAM. Granted if your system is this unstable I'd expect stress tests to knock it over faster.

There may be a particular CPU instruction or driver which is causing the problem.

I think it is a windows problem personally.
I have had win 7 spk1 for years now.
No doubt full or errors as i am still getting these errors mainly browsing via crome as someone said earlier crome is a resource hog and that is the type or errors i am getting.

Still getting these crashes, multi coloured screens, crashes for 5 secs or so then comes back on sometimes i have to reboot.
Driving me bonkers any more help would be great.

It is the drivers, my card is from 2012 i think and it still plays all the old and new games to a degree with the new ones lower settings etc.
Rolled back to factory driver.
Not one wobbly screen, no flickering, just read on this forum about a guy who had the exact same issue as me with the wattman settings.
Going to use some older driver see if that does it.
Or could it simply be a setting i turn off in the radeon settings?

After days of messing around i have found out what it was.
Refresh rate...
For some reason my refresh rate was put to 29 hrz, changed it back to 60 hrz and it seems fixed.
Damn nightmare.

Weird issue to have, great that you've sorted it :)

Guys it was back a bit later on bad.
And i have noticed slight atrifacts on screen.
So i am assuming this card will be brown bread soon?too so it must be the card.
Had this since 2013 been a great card this amd 7950 3 gig card.
What is a wortjy upgrade?
I don't mean 100's n 100,s as i have not been following gfx cards for years.
Seem one on here for like 6.5k my jaw hit the floor .

Thanks all.

What your describing sounds similar to issues I have been experiencing.

I had a single MSI 7950 Twin Frozr, a few times in its early years on Crysis and WOT I experienced artefacts, highest settings at 120hz. Then it eased off.

Then got a second 7950, identical. Built a crossfire system, rarely used it, moved to a 1070 and gave my lads the 7950's.

In the last year both lads have had GPU issues, crashes, bluescreens.
Both on Windows 7 64bit. Rolling back drivers improved short term. My eldest moved to W10, but problems came back, but is less when he disables some gpu driver? He needs to expkain it better sigh.

But for me, two identical GPU's, same problems, regardless of system.

One lad is now on a 1050ti, the other an 8gb AMD 570.
