errr wtf is this!!!!

You can install it for pretty much any distro.

Ubuntu 6.06 is quite easy to configure with XGL (nice wiki's on it).
SLED10 comes with it and is VERY easy to get going (a small shift+double-click)
Kororaa is an excellent live CD (based on gentoo) that has it, I think it was the first liveCD to do so.

And so on ... :)

XGL (and Compiz) are the two important keywords you need to be looking at, while Suse and Ubuntu are simply different distributions of Linux . You can run XGL on other distributions like Fedora too.

XGL is the power behind the flashy effects you see - it allows the window manager (Compiz) to take advantage of the power of the graphics card in a similar way to how, I believe, Vista takes advantage of the graphics card for nice interface effects.

Compiz allows you to load various plugins for the interface - such as the wobbling windows, transparency and workspace switching.

First thing is to install your preferred Linux distribution, and then you can go about installing XGL/Compiz on top of that.

I think you either love it or you hate it. Personally I quite enjoy the effects as I flip between desktops and lay everything out infront of me etc etc.

oh its great, don't get me wrong - but i didn't like to have to spawm a non GL session to run games :p

unless someone can tell me how to "disable" it for when I want to run GL apps

Korrarrorooraoroaroa livecd isn't avail anymore, it was breaking licenses using the ATI/nVidia drivers

i have this on my gentoo box and it's lurverly, a bit of a waste of resources at the moment and on my 1.4ghz thunderbird and geforce4mx it runs "ok" but video's stutter... which is a shame

Its a pretty cool, if pointless, program.

Im gonna install it on Ubuntu on my desktop when i get a spare HDD.
I'd install it on my Laptop Ubuntu installation, but with the ACPI fan problem, i dont think im gonna risk a dead laptop! :p

Pointless:
Unnessessary. Un-needed, ect;
The floppy windows effect is pointless. As is the stretchy windows. And the way things popup, like the menus & new windows. Water/ripple effects. DVDs over two desktops is pointless as well.

So that leaves, Cube & desktop window arrangement that are actually something more than just eye candy.
