esata cable length

I note that on the Wiki it states the max length for an esata cable is 1m but I see plenty of cable lengths up to 3m.
Can anyone confirm they happen to use a 3m esata cable and never had trouble with it? (need it for a wee project I got in the works)

I use a 2m cable and ive not had any problems, maybe im loosing some data speed but it dont matter to be as i only use it to backup data (and sometimes boot up xp)

I would say a 3 meter cable should work ok

Coolies, in my case it's going to a DVD-R and slow laptop HDD so probably same speed wise.
