esata help (noob alert)

I have an eSata port on the front of my computer.
I wish to connect a desktop hard drive to it, to get some data off of it.

Do i just need an eSata to eSata cable to do this?

how does the the hard drive get power, is the eSata in my PC also connected
to the motherboard with usb to allow power for this very scenario ?

I have two eSATA ports on the back of my machine. I have two cables both 2m long.
One is eSATA to eSATA and the other is eSATA to SATA ( female) . The latter allows me to connect a SATA hard drive to my PC. To power the drive you could either buy an external power supply or if your case allows by a extended 4 pin power supply and run it from the inside to outside your case. I use an external power supply.

another option:

i can connect the Hard drive to my motherboard on "my" computer as long as i have the correct inputs, ie power cable and sata slot?
im sure my pc probably will?
 
Another option,

On that online auction site search for USB to SATA.

this site does not allow links to other sites that sell things.

Searching should show you a power supply and an adapter for IDE to USB\ SATA.
Buy an eSATA to SATA also then your good to go and be able to connect any drive to your PC.

I guess it comes with it's own power supply.

You would have to check what other cables come with it, you may well need to buy extra cables any way. i.e the eSATA to eSATA cable.

Is it expensive ?

You can use USB2 so i guess it can be powered from that.

Mmmmmmm powered by the USB port.

I can not defiantly say but I can't imagine a USB port having enough juice to power a hard drive.

On the caddy there are 3 ports and what looks like a power on light, to me it looks like the far left port is the power supply port.

Seems a good price. Go for it.

i share your skepticism lol.
I am going to email the seller and ask does it come with a power supply
and usb cables.
