For some reason when I plug in my external eSATA caddie into my eSATA port on the back of my motherboard - the hard drive isn't being detected? I can't for the life of me figure out why? The drive is being detected perfectly fine when I use an internal SATA port.

The drivers and right options are enabled in the bios.

Asus M2NE-SLI Deluxe
Icybox External Sata box with WD 500GB AAKS drive and an Akasa Sata to eSATA converter.

Edit - it's not being detected in computer management either :(

Yoinks that was a quick reply - it makes sense too - as it's not being detected anywhere. How daft of Akasa tbh! Thanks for you help Mr Helmut :)

Mmmm tried the caddy end - but that doesn't appear to have helped either - the eSATA port is controlled by Silicon Image..I'll go and have a look at their website.

Can anybody else help at all?

On Striker Extreme I had the Silicon Image Sata Controler enabled to SATA not RAID and installed the correct latest Driver for it from their site not the Asus CD or Site.

My only issue was that Akasa Cable at the WD My Book end did not make contact, it fitted the PC Rear I/O Plate end correctly and also the Akasa Adapter end when I later tried out a Striker II Formula which lacks ESATA.

Yeap I have it set to SATA in the bios. And the drivers from Asus' website are a version up from the download available on Silicon Image's website site, hence Vista decided that they were up to date.

Do you have any other suggestions at all? I'm really getting annoyed at this. It's on the Si 3132 controller :/

Well I managed to sort of solve the problem. There's an internal SATA port free also by Silicon Image and I think I'm just going to route an internal cable externally through one of the holes in the back of the case (for watercooling pipes). Not ideal, but I'm going to wait until a better solution arises..
