Hi, I have an abit IP35 mobo which doesn't come with esata.
I have a coolermaster CM-690 Dominator case which has an esata connector on it.
Can I conect the cases esata port to the motherboars hard drive sata ports

Sorry for such a stupid question but I don't want to fry my board so I thought I would ask first.

Many thanks

Well esata and sata have different connectors.

Esata has a flat connector and sata has a l-shaped connector, so it should'nt really be possible to fry your mobo. Also, afaik esata is backwards compatible with sata so a conversion cable should do the trick for you.

funnily enough I've just built a pc for my mate with a cooler master case and IP35 mobo. I just connected the internal ESATA cable to the mobo SATA connector, it's basically a converter cable that terminates in an ESATA connector on the top of the case.

Indeed, I also have the CM690.

If its like mine then the top mounted eSATA port has a red cable already attached that just plugs straight into a SATA port on the mobo. SATA and eSATA are the same technology but for some reason (someone will explain) eSATA uses a different shapped connector for external connections...? Its kinda like USB and mini USB and all the other types of connectors. They all do the same thing
