I've got a samsung 1TB drive in an icybox caddy.

The bios is set up to allow the sata port it goes into to support hot plug.

The drive only appears if it is in the caddy when the computer boots.

I have tried rescanning drives under disk management to no avail.

When plugged in and running it appears under the 'safely remove hardware' tool on the systray.

Irritatingly it all worked until about a week ago when I ran the latest windows update.

Any ideas of things I could try ????

Given that solutions are always useful.....

I have replaced the default windows AHCI drivers with the motherboard specific ones. Whilst the drive now doesn't appear under "safely remove hardware" it works fine using hotswap!

Have no idea why the MS driver just stopped behaving :-/

I've always installed the Intel ones (Rapid Storage driver) and that's always worked! The Windows ones are a bit odd when it comes to hotswapping especially with eSATA or case mounted SATA ports for docking.
