When you connect up a hdd using the esata connection on a case (my coolermaster 840) do I still need to power the drive? Is the esata connection purely a data connection? If so, isn't that a bit daft? I've never tried before and I need to transfer some files from my old hdd's onto my new ones and thought instead of opening it all up I'd use the esata connection. But if I need to plug in power to the drives I'd have to open up the case anyway.

Normally it is meant for external hard drives so they come with a power adaptor.

Yes, it is only data.

The E is for external.
