I know there's a big fan base for the NOD32 antivirus program. So I was wondering if the "complete solution" (firewall, antivirus, etc) from the same company gets the "NOD" so to speak as well? Linky

Is it simple to get it configured for total stealth and all that? (Surprising how complicated it is to do that in some programs).

I currently have a 60 trial of Norton going (which I don't like). I also don't like Windows firewall...

Cheers

No, just go for the anti-virus. Smart Securitys anti-spam component is okay, integrating with Outlook/Express and working along the same lines as SPAMfighter. But the software firewall is horrible and a pain to configure, you'd be better off going for Comodo if you need something more than the Windows Firewall (disable Defense+).

I got smart security and I like it.. does the job for me. There was hardly any difference in cost when i bought it so I thought why not. :)

Thanks, I was having a look at Comodo. It looks like the free version is all that's needed. The one feature not available in the free version is the "TrustConnect". Is that just a gimmick? For surfing on a public wlan, all you really need is total stealth... so if the firewall does that, what would I need "TrustConnect" for? From the screen shot, it appears to be just a added layer of password authentication of some sort.

A free firewall that I've used in the past on XP and 2000 is ZoneAlarm. I'm setting up a new Vista machine now and not sure if I want to go with ZoneAlarm again. Comodo looks a lot nicer at least :) Although very good ZoneAlarm is one of the ugliest programs ever made :p

Cheers

+1 - exactly what I do. The combination of NOD32 and COMODO seems to be immensely popular - and everyone advocates turning off Defense+.

Is it straight forward to activate total stealth and set up trusted IP's within a local net?

Cheers

Sorry to say I dont have a clue.. I only use it to monitor my traffic, my network consists of me and my laptop behind a hardware firewall.. :o
