ESPN Premier League prices

Expensive for what it offers and I can only see die hard football fans signing up, we are still in a recession and an extra £9-13 a month is not exactly easy to swallow, PPV is needed, say £4-5 to watch a game, say your team is on and playing away you might fancy just getting that one game.
 
Great way to **** off both Football fans and American sports fans in one fell swoop.

Footy fans have to spend £9-£12 a month to get football and a load of stuff they don't want and people like me who like ESPN America are going to get have to spend more to get less!

Bonkers decision, should have made the games PPV until they have enough rights to start a full time channel up.
 
Good stuff, £9 between 4 of us hardly breaks the bank.

In fact, £9 a month between 1 of us is cheap as chips, cheapskates :p

If it was PPV, the number of games purchased would have been approximately zero, so they've got our money anyway.
 
sorry you're saying £4-5 for ppv is fine, but £9 for what must be at minimum 4 games a month, is expensive?

Sky sports ppv's were some £5-6 a game weren't they towards the end, and the season ticket was supposed to be £100 a year maybe JUST for football, while this will offer a heck of a lot more sport, for only £10 or so more all told. Yes there were deals for the season ticket and it could be much cheaper, it was WAY cheaper on old cable at £1 a month for some reason.

What they should work out is different prices for diff packages though, have 2-3 channels a la sky sports and offer a price for each separately and deals for more than 1.

Sky sports is some £20+ a month as it is, with no real option to go cheaper and get "all" the football. Then consider its £10 a month to get HD aswell even if you just want the sport, so footie in hd is £30+ a month. At least ESPN are going HD and its £10 cheaper a year for what will be very very good quality coverage most likely.

Failing to see an issue, see over 40 games a year, for the price of 2-3 match tickets.


EDIT:_ if its done through sky rather than an external thing like Setanta it will be easier to get rid of, get it the months you want it maybe, stop it over summer if there aren't other sports you want to watch on.
We've also yet to see if they offer any deals, special offers, vouchers, etc, etc.

Well we'll have to see, but with the demise of espn america thrown in to the mix, depends on what stateside sports remain.

Have both virgin and sky in the house, loving the fact i got setanta on the cable with 45 quid a month hedged up on my sky sub allready, it's that realy, just football i won't sub an extra, if they offer extensive coverage of ncaa college football... im in.

Id imagine there's a fair few worried america sports fans out there, nasn/epsn america since it started has drawn us into an addictive diet.. ill never forget that first college bowl season, watched every game.. and those two adverts they had 100 times over a night(no joke). To see it go would be a travestry, despite the maybe of a seperate espn america return:(
 
Thats what worries me, instead of college gameday and a double/triple header of games on Saturday teatime/evening now we'll be getting Man U V Birmingham or some other mediocre premier league game.

The footy fans won't care about the US Sport and the US Sport fans won't want the EPL games cluttering up their schedules making them miss stuff they've been accustomed too watching.

We'll see how it turns out but they'd need to provide some HD College Football and Baseball and not just the prem games as a sweetner to get me laying my £9 a month down.
 
I'll probably sign up as the alternative (going to a pub to watch matches on ESPN, if they even have it) would likely work out just as expensive after drinks.

Over 10 months that works out at £90 so less than £2 a game, although obviously I doubt I'll watch half of them. The fact it is in HD and should in theory be less faff than Setanta as it's done through Sky makes me think what the heck, I mean I've spent more than £90 just going to watch a single match in the past.
