Hi guys, I have just upgraded my home audio to include:

Yamaha RXV467 - and it can handle HD audio (main reason for upgrade from 9 year old Yammy)

So now I HAVE to buy a blu ray player and some blu rays - what are the essential titles?
Big fan of sci fi/fantasy/action/adventure films, so should get some good ones

Awesome suggestions so far, got private ryan, district 9, gladiator, new star trek and xmen box set in my shopping list so far!

Will rent Sunshine and Punisher through lovefilm at some point soon :D

I have the same AV Receiver it is great. I like the silent cinema on the headphones, can get full bluray audio on the headphones.

The opening scene of pitch black on bluray is impressive.
Inception
Transformers movies
The bourne series
Terminators
Jurassic parks (I rewatched all three on bluray and i was impressed)

Just get the movies you have seen before, watching movies i have already seen on bluray for the first time is like watching them again for first time. I have 300 movies on bluray :D

I like your taste in movies! I've never seen Pitch Black though, but the other ones are all good calls!
Out of interest, what headphones do you use? As I don't have any quality headphones, but I do have neighbours! lol

Here's a link to the "Reference Blu-Ray" list at AVS Forums - The Tier 0 ones are those with the absolute best Picture and Sound Quality, regardless of how "good" the actual film is.

The explanation of their grading system is the top post and Post #2 is the start of the list.

Woah, someone has put a lot of effort in to compiling that list! Definately gonna influence my purchases though! Thank you very much!

Gonna ask for star wars box for birthday/christmas I think! My wallet doesnt like the sound of a £50 boxset, although they are awesome films!

The annoying thing is, I dont like avatar as a film, but have a feeling I will buy it just to show off my system to people! haha

Any more? :D

LotR trilogy.

For the record, I have the 471, which is the same as yours with a couple of new features. It's serving me very well.

I was torn between mine and the 471, but got a good deal on mine, so couldn't justify spending the extra really. The whole Yamaha range looks really nice though! And def gonna get LotR, can't believe how cheap you can pick it up (circa £15 - all the extras don't appeal to me)

Sweet, got plenty of blu rays in my shopping list folder! Just need to get the overtime in work and I will be laughing!

Thanks for ideas, feel free to add more to the list though :)
