Alright so i've read this thread - http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17693564

And just wondering are there any more essential mods people would recommend, i'am mainly looking for ones that are for textures of the world and maybe anything that adds more gameplay to the dark brotherhood. Played this when it came out on 360 and want to give it a whirl on PC modded and actually complete it. So anything that makes the game look nicer really, don't want to change it too much in terms of story and quests etc.

Just incase specs are important to performance of mods i have
6950 2gb
i5 @4ghz
4gig ddr3

Thanks.

Qarls Texture Pack and Bomrils Shivering Isles Pack, if you can get them to work (i've never got any texture pack to work on Oblivion).
Unofficial Patches
Have a look at OOO, MMM, Francescos and WarCry (the mods combined in FCOM). See if any sound good. OOO adds some nice quests.
Oblivion XP or nGCD (only tried the former)
Herbalism - Do you really want to have to click on EVERY plant?
Quest Award Leveller - Makes any levelled quest reward increase in power as you do, means you don't have to delay to get the best version of an incredibly good item late game.
Some other handy ones like a YetAnotherHotKeyMod, spell deletion and key chain that are useful to have.
Darnified UI and Colour Map Mod are good choices. Think theres a better version of the latter (Elven Map Mod or something) but i can't be bothered to change it).

You should really down the mod manager OBMM and OBSE (and Wrye Bash if you're adding more than a few mods, helps with stability). OBSE is probably required by some and OBMM makes everything easier and some let you install directly through it.

Thanks for the replies guys, definately getting Nehrim once i give vanilla oblivion a good play through, that is bloody ridiculous looking.

Yeah I've been meaning to give Nehrim a go at some stage. Looks absolutely amazing.

Essential reading: TESIV:POSITIVE That site is a great help.

Here's my BAIN install list, if it'll give you any ideas. :) Centred about OOO and MMM. I'm still chopping and changing a few things, but it is running well at the moment.

Note, I have merged some plugins and combined several things into fewer archives, for neatness sake, so just go by the names and search for them rather than the exact archives; so you'll need to do the work in searching and reading about the ones you want.

The difficulty is making sure you get any patches between certain mods (unique landscapes for one has many compatibility patches).

Oh, essential tools for users would be wrye bash and BOSS (get these NOW! :)), TES4LODGen, OBSE.
If you feel like it you can get tes4edit, gecko, the construction set, obmm and others, but for me I don't find them necessary.

2jes2o8.jpg

Anyone know why this is happening?

At a guess it's the "\new folder" in the install path.

OBMM just installed directly into "\oblivion" for me.

http://www.tesnexus.com/ great website, god to many to remember iirc i had around 150~ mods and the actual area of oblivion was like 3 times bigger with places like, i think it was duke city (yeah duke nukem city with crowbars as weapons and citys and even a brothel with actual P0rn in it and mmy installation folder was over 25 gb lol.

but to name a few

duke city
quarls texture and the shivering isle one
midas magic
darnified ui
deadly reflexes

Sorry for inclusion of mass images but.
This is my OBMM, and i think its set up correctly. I installed that mod by just clicking on the qarls texture RAR file is that correct?
v7v795.jpg

I launch oblivion through steam and just check the data files, no mention of textures.

and oblivion looks like that and doesn't look very modded to me.

That is ultra high+8x aa

You probably missed archive invalidation.

Utilities --> Archive Invalidation

Make it look like this...

And hit update.

Qarls doesn't add a data file as such like a lot of other mods, it just replaces textures. The game needs to know to use them, which the steps above ensure.

EDIT: Also this is the latest Qarl's texture pack neatly packaged as an OMOD for OBMM...

Cheers, going to give it a whirl.

Tell you what it takes a long time for it to be compressed.

I tried getting back into it two or 3 times. Each time I spent longer trying to get the mods to work than actually playing the game.

And once is all worked and I started, I was like meh.

Yeh same as, even playing nehrim it's the same feeling

the one that changes it so enemies dont level with you. apart from some graphics mods dont know why you'd change anything else, perfect game for me.

I'm going to do a post soon on how to set up Oblivion so you have all the best graphics mods, they all work with each other and the game doesn't crash every 5 seconds.

I still need to document the various race/face/body replacers and some INI settings but here's a mod & util list so far installed and happy:

Alive Waters
All Natural (Weather)
Animated Window Lighting System
Beaming SUnglare
Better Cities
Better Oblivion Sorting Software
Bomrets Texture Pack
Clocks of Cyrodiil
Darnified UI
Enhanced Vegetation
Enhanced Water
Fast Exit
Frostcrag Reborn
Glenvar Castle
Improved Trees & Flora
Kvatch Rebuilt
Landscape LOD
Natural Environments
Oblivion Graphics Extender
Oblivion Mod Manager
Oblivion Script Extender
Oblivion Stutter Remover
Qarls Texture Pack
Rainbows in Tamriel
Real Night Sky
Really Almost Everything Viewable When Distant
Storms and Sound
Streamline
Tes4LODGen
Unique Landscapes
Unofficial Patches
Wrye Bash

And i thought i had a lot of mods. Must say i'm not a fan of the Magicka mod. It looked like it added some nice new styles of spells but so badly overpowered mages (as if they weren't overpowered anyway, so stupid reading comments about how magic isn't strong) that it made them a bit pointless.

EDIT: Also this is the latest Qarl's texture pack neatly packaged as an OMOD for OBMM...

Exactly what mine looks like, it just doesn't work for some reason. Never has.

v1.3 full OMOD
