Essential Oblivion Mods.

I'm going to do a post soon on how to set up Oblivion so you have all the best graphics mods, they all work with each other and the game doesn't crash every 5 seconds.

I still need to document the various race/face/body replacers and some INI settings but here's a mod & util list so far installed and happy:

Alive Waters
All Natural (Weather)
Animated Window Lighting System
Beaming SUnglare
Better Cities
Better Oblivion Sorting Software
Bomrets Texture Pack
Clocks of Cyrodiil
Darnified UI
Enhanced Vegetation
Enhanced Water
Fast Exit
Frostcrag Reborn
Glenvar Castle
Improved Trees & Flora
Kvatch Rebuilt
Landscape LOD
Natural Environments
Oblivion Graphics Extender
Oblivion Mod Manager
Oblivion Script Extender
Oblivion Stutter Remover
Qarls Texture Pack
Rainbows in Tamriel
Real Night Sky
Really Almost Everything Viewable When Distant
Storms and Sound
Streamline
Tes4LODGen
Unique Landscapes
Unofficial Patches
Wrye Bash

How soon is soon :P?

Careful when you go down the road of modding Oblivion, you may spend more time browsing, updating and configuring them than actually playing. :p

The essential tool is of course oblivion mod manager, mod wise I prefer a more subtle approach of replacing in-game assets (textures and models) rather than greatly modifying the gameplay experience (yeah out of place Japanese mods, i mean you.)

Too true! Can't deny it's not fun tho, spent the last few weeks devoting a few billion brain cells to an essentially useless skill :)

Wrye Bash

Pretty much exactly what I'm using. Hardest part really is Wrye Bash. Never seen such an awkward piece of software for modding.

Have you tried any of the 4096 distant lod replacers? I'm looking for something to sort out the blurriness of it all but those always make everything look blocky and unnatural. So far I prefer the low res defaults.

Played oblivion, loads of mods installed looked amazing, uninstalled within 1hr
Loaded up nehrim, played for 2hrs, ran like crap got bored and uninstalled

You can install any mod going, any expansion at the end of the day it's still oblivion and never came close to morrowind or the much older elder scrolls series :(

Oblivion in sale

I'f Oblivion is in the Christmas sale I intend to buy it, can someone recommend some decent mods to install the only mod I know beforehand is levelers house and is it worth getting the GOTY version with all the extras. thanks in advance

Can't believe no one has mentioned Vilja - the most detailed NPC addon ever made for the game. Voiced by the Swedish developer herself, and has around 5000 lines of spoken dialogue. Well worth a look in if you are after a customisable companion with her own quest line.

I can't link to it as I am at work but a search should yield a ton of results. One of the most essential Oblivion mods tbh.

Also, what was said above is so true. You WILL spend more time modding the game than playing it. Same goes for Skyrim :/

This one? Certainly sounds like one detailed mod!

Can't see most of the site (work filters) but yes she's an NPC Companion so that is it. It is extremely detailed and her questline goes on for a while. I never finished it as I was too busy modding :P

It is the most detailed NPC mod you will see on any game tbh, Vilja alone has more spoken dialogue than the whole of Oblivion's npc's combined!
