Essential OSX Applications?

Nah I mean so that I can rename the actual files without iTunes messing up my folder structure e.g.

fdsf_01.mp3 becomes 01 - artist - track.mp3

iTunes does that though. If you change all the tags (using Command-I to bring up the dialog), you can change your tags that way. Then once you are done, choose the "Reconsolidate Library" option from one of the menus (I forget which one), which basically rebuilds everything, and names files and directories according to the Tags. Of course, it's not customisable, but it should get pretty close to a sensible structure.

I used iEatBrainz to sort out a lot of my untagged music first, and then I fine tuned it manually afterwards. It looks like though that iEatBrainz is not compliant with iTunes7 (only 6).

I just found a cool app for putting album playlists onto the desktop as album art :) then when you want to play them, you can double click and itunes opens minimised and starts playing.

Also has a mini player with album art of currently playing.

Bit gimmicky I guess but I thought it was pretty cool.

is there anything free I can use to resize images? and also a simple free PHP editor with syntax highlighting?

Sorry Hamish, not to sure about the PHP editor but for image resizing you could try the GIMP

GIMP has a lot more uses than just image resizing, it is kind of a free photoshop. IMHO it is certainly one of the "essential" OSX applications.

Hi

In finder first navigate to the folder where you want to display thumbnailes, then click view, Show View Options, and click on Show icon preview.
