estimate of insurance on MK4 golf gti

shouldnt be bad, are the mk4 gtis still grp16? if they are, thats likely to be because of the gti badge and the kudos that goes with it :D

id expect it to be in the region of a grand fully comp (depending on where you live etc)

I paid £1,600 for a year at 22, 0ncb, one claim, no convictions on a BMW 330d Sport.

value of your BM will be considerably higher than the golf tho, so ought to be much less than the insurance on the bimmer.

alternatively.... he could get a quote, that would be much more accurate than our guessestimations

Could be utterly anything, by the time you have asked on here you could have got a quote over the phone , all depends where you live. Over 1k though, i payed 900 quid on my 2.0 one back when i was 23 with 0 ncb. But thats not a high a group.

Depends if its a 150BHP or a 180BHP.

They uprated the power output around the 52 plate. If it has a 6 speed gearbox its 180BHP.

I have a MkIv 25th Anniversary and I love her to bits.

You can get discounted insurance as a member of UKMiV's.net (http://uk-mkivs.net/default.aspx)

If you have any golf questions post them up on there...great board, very friendly!! And oh, they will make you spend your money, just like on here!!!

Lovely car, would have fancied the diesel version but bit pricey for what they are really, have you got it remapped? Sorry for taking thread of course.

Yeah, its got the revo map and SPS 1 - the wife has never noticed the difference!!!!!

Didnt fancy the diesel but when remapped its a much much better option - the torque on a Revo Diesel is unreal - pulls like a steam train through the gears and that from a car which only has 150BHP standard, compared to the 180bhp Petrol. http://www.revotechnik.com/

You can find them now from £10k, but mine has really really low milage and is as mint, if not minter, then when it left the factory so if I was to sell Id advertise for £12k which is what the better ones seem to attract.

There are some obvious faults to look out for on all MkiV's, Water pump has habit of breaking which means replacing the cambelt - window regulators are prone to breaking but a real cheap fix, and earlier models have the dreaded Coil Pack (which most have already been replaced by now).

Yeah mine is revo'd to 190, as i have the 150PD lump in my Leon, my gf doesnt notice the difference either.

It depends

If it's the poor 8v 2.0 version then not much as it's only group 10 - probably about £800 or so

If it's the better 1.8 or 1.8T versions then it will cost more to insure (there are four engines in the Golf GTI - 2.0 115bhp, 1.8 125bhp, 1.8T 150bhp and 1.8T 180bhp)

The best thing to do would be to get some plates off AutoTrader and run some quotes

I've been looking at 150bhp mk4's and i'm looking at around £1100 for 22y/o, 1NCB, 2 claims and a BAAADDDD postcode, i'm sure your's will be a fair bit less.

If you read the first post - he does actually say a 1.8t GTi. Hence my earlier post asking if it was a 150BHP version, or a new 180BHP version.
Oh, and they never put the 1.8 non turbo lump in the GTi. The 2.0GTi was only badged a GTI in the UK - and its proper pony!.

Yep - sorry. Missed that!

Knew about the 2.0 only being badged as a GTI in the UK but I was sure that they offered the 1.8 non turbo in the GTI for a few years when the car was first released (1997)

I'm 29 and have a 150bhp MK4 1.8t Gti. I have 6 points for speeding (two seperate offences) and a Drink Driving Conviction (about 4 years old). I have full no claims (9 years +) and only one claim for very minor bump. My insurance is £850 per annum but with monthly instalments it rises to about £95 per month.
