ESX 3.0.2. - Moving Templates between Datastores issue

ESX 3.0.2

Local storage on 3 hosts.

Want to move templates from one datastore to another.

Removed from inventory. Browsed datastore to find template file. Right click, add to inventory, choose new host.

I get a specified parameter was incorrect - all hosts have local storage.

Any ideas pls ?
 
You say the template is stored on local sorage on host 1 and you are trying to add it to host 2?

Won't work afaik... needs to be shared storage or you need to move all the files over to host 2's local storage first.

Yip. Host 1 cant see host 2's storage and vice versa so you have to copy all the files to the data store attached to the host you wish to use them on.
 
Mmmm - even with the hosts in the same cluster ?

From memory I have managed to move one VM from one host to another in a similar fashion with no issues.

We don't have VMOTION available.

Hmmm couldn't you convert it to a VM and move it via SVM while its turned off ?

Otherwise copy it via scp or something....but yeah you can't just add it to the other host without shared storage.

Yes.

If you have a cluster of hosts you MUST have shared storage for the VMs to run on and be transfered to and from.
Each host will however have local storage as in disks in server itself.
The local storage shouldnt and afaik cant be shared so you have to copy over the templates...or move the template to shared storage.
