ESXi Datastore Backups?

Just wondering if you can backup a datastore folder etc to a mapped drive on your network automatically?

I have a server setup with esxi and network storage that I d rather use connected to one of the vm's as a shared storage, can I copy the vm's to this storage somehow?

Can it be automated?

With ESXi free its doable if you enable the (unsupported) SSH, using SCP. Its possible that Veeam FastSCP will do this for you if you enable SSH but I've not tried it against ESXi Free.

using the vsphere cli would be a better solution than ssh which, as drz says, is unsupported. you can download the cli tools here http://downloads.vmware.com/d/details/vcli40/ZCV0YmRkJSpidHdw.

I've not used it for this kind of thing but I'd imagine there are commands/scripts that would do the job.

This is the dogs danglies. I use this to backup test and dev environments of 8 and 9 guests per host.
I backup to an iSCSI LUN hosted on the backup server and backup to tape there.
