Hi

We are reconfiguring our esxi cluster, sorting out a new SAN etc.
We are using Enterprise Plus nodes with distributed switches.

If the vCenter server is turned off for a period of time and we manage the nodes separately using the vSphere client, will the dvSwitch still work on the individual nodes?

My thinking is it'll still work, but we just wont be able to manage/monitor it whilst the vCenter server is down, is that correct?

they are stored in vc database....no vc no way to change them .... put management ports on standard vswifs so you can get on the hosts if vc is down.

have seen a problem where if you start the hosts when vc is also down then the host seems to want to get the dvswitch config from the vc and timed out leaving no vswitchs at all...on that occasion the management ports were on dvswitches as well hence do way to get on them at all. Hence the importance of putting management on standard.
