Hey,

Anybody taken the plunge and upgraded to ESXi 4.1 yet?

I recently upgraded a VC to 4.1 and am having a few niggling issues with DB Transactions logs and update manager which has put me off moving from ESX 4.0 to ESXi 4.1.

How are you folks finding ESXi 4.1.

Cheers,

Jon

Its caused us no issues at all. We moved our DR to 4.1 for a week then moved primary(8 hosts) to 4.1 as well with no issues. Cant comment on performance as havnt noticed any increase/decrease but is stable and gives some nice new bits e.g. ability to cancel a vmotion task!

Well we ended up having to raise a few calls with VMware on this once we upgraded our DR site.

Licencing got broken when we upgraded. We had to rebuild the x32 as x64 Virtual Center servers and then it used 32 bit ODBC connections for update manager which we thought was stupid.

Update Manager is broken (apparantly fixed in 4.1.1) it's not really broken it just reports errors though its working (annoying as hell) only way I've found to fix is to patch all the hosts and reinstall VUM but not add the Update into it.

Converter health service reporting is broken.

I think thats the ones I've noticed thus far.

I'm seeing issues with update manager.

Although I've had to put my upgrade on hold due to a pathing issue. Also, after speaking with Dell the firmware on my Equallogic box doesn't fully support ESXi 4.1 yet. Apparently they are releasing some new firmware within a few months.

Few months? That sounds like it will be potentially out of date again. Thats a bit of a nightmare.

After speaking with the techies the Update Manager is a known issue it basically looks for patches sees there isn't any and because the file it uses doesn't exist any more it errors - when there are patches for it available it will work properly.

Well he said 6 weeks, I know what these companies are like for delivering new firmware lol.

I don't think Dell like to change their SAN firmware much.
