hey guys,

i'm trying to get esxi installed after finally getting all my hardware, however the install fails to detect a network adapter. i realise if your NIC isn't recognised then the install will not continue.

I am using the following mobo: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-391-GI

Is there a work around to get the onboard nic drivers into the esxi5 install? Or must I buy a dedicated NIC, and in which case, can someone recommend one that they know works for sure with an esxi install, don't want to be throwing money around on cards that are not supported.

Cheers for the help guys, trying to get into the VM stuff, but tricky when your hardware isn't supported which I knew was likely to be an issue! ^^

This nic works for sure on the lastest build of stock ESXi

In order to get your current one working you'll have to try finding the drivers for the chipset and injecting them into the .iso. I managed to do that successfully using a tool called ESXi customizer on my desktop board which had a broadcom chipset. No guarantees though that you'll find them for your chipset and if they'll work.

If you do end up buying a NIC I think pretty much all of the Intel desktop/server adapters are ok. Make use of one of those PCIe x1 slots with a single port CT card

Really though you want more than one NIC port for your system ;)
