Some info on the charecter classes for ET Quake Wars

More noises have come out of Activision and developer Splash Damage haveregarding the much anticipated FPS Enemy Territory: Quake Wars, including backstory for the two warring sides and details of the character's classes.

Quake Wars is an online strategic shooter that pits the forces of Earth's Global Defence Force (GDF) against the invading Strogg forces. This is no ordinary team deathmatch, though, as the key to success means establishing bases, taking out defensive structures and using numerous futuristic vehicles to out-manoeuvre your opponents.

The GDF was established in the 21st century, when numerous national armies came together to fight terrorism and help in times of natural disaster. This 'world army' is the only organisation equipped to deal with the Strogg threat.

Earth's Global Defence Force comprises:

Soldier
The basic grunt armed with machine gun and rocket launcher.

Field Ops
In charge of artillery deployment and choice of targets. He can also call in air strikes and dispense ammo to fellow soldiers.

Engineer
Armed with a shotgun and mines, the engineer can construct and repair numerous things such as vehicles, bridges and defence turrets.

Covert Ops
Carries smoke grenades and a sniper rifle. This operative uses stealth to get close to the enemy, then use PDAs to hack into enemy electronics.

Medic
There to heal and revive fellow soldiers while supporting in battle with an assault rifle.

The Strogg are a race of telepathic cyborgs, hell bent on controlling the entire universe in order to produce Stroyent - a food-fuel on which they are dependent. They're known for annihilating any life form that crosses their path and generally being bad eggs.

Their classes are as follows:

Aggressor
The Strogg equivalent of the GDF soldier comes equipped with the Hyperblaster fast-firing assault weapon and Obliterator Bosonic Orb weapon.

Oppressor
In charge of deploying the Plasma Mortar and the other Strogg fire support weapons.

Constructor
Similar to the engineer but carries a repair drone that will zip off, automatically repair Strogg units and return to the constructor when finished.

Infiltrator
Capable of possessing dead GDF soldiers and then infiltrating enemy bases. Also carries a remote control drone, useful for spying.

Technician
The Strogg medic who keeps the troops happy with regular supplies of Stroyent, which restores health and ammo in one go. The Technician can also create Strogg spawn from the bodies of the GDF.

Nice vids, one thing I keep in mind when watching trailers is that it is probably not what the game will be like in the hands of the public...

Example, Battlefield 2 Euro Force

In the trailer it shows a squad of people slow walking looking down the sights taking people out like in the movies, but just look at real gameplay in BF2 joe public servers.

I still think this game will be very fun tho :)

Telepathic Cyborgs?! Barstewards!

I think generally this will give the Battlefield series a run for its money, that's good because DICE/EA have been sitting on their laurels for too long.

I think thats a good point. Wouldn't suprise if me EA tried to spoil the party with a launch of Battlefield 2142 around the same time in a kind of Doom3 Half-Life 2 Duke out

Large HQ Trailer Here

according to GameFaqs it say Q3 2006 for the USA but still tba in Europe

about time someone came up with an alternative to BF2, although it looks like both this and BF2142 will be out at roughly the same time

If they did, and for some freak reason i could only invest in one, hands down i'd go with Quake Wars.

Getting a bit tired of BF2 and its constent bugs. Don't ge me wrong, it's a great game, but it's about time DICE got their finger out. Plus, i have the feeling BF2142 is going to share the same fate as BF Vietnam.

Well I know which one I'll be buying, and it won't involve any money going to EA ;)
